Team GB

With off field antics continuing to further blockade the fans from the club they love, such as the legal action Henning Berg is taking against the owners, Shebby Singh re-appearing with outlandish comments, and the only communication from the owners coming from Balaji Rao who claimed Rovers are still contending for the play offs, it was important for Ewood Park to present a welcoming atmosphere for Gary Bowyer who is filling the role of manager for a second time this season after Michael Appleton was sacked last Tuesday after 67 days in charge.

Team GB brought three changes to the squad who previously salvaged a point in the Lancashire derby against Burnley, seeing Josh Morris, Josh King and Lee Williamson start in place of Martin Olsson, Leon Best and Cameron Stewart.

Although Bowyer had hinted earlier on in the week that there may still be a place in the squad for ex skipper Danny Murphy, the former Fulham man was unable to seek his place today as he was left out of the squad entirely, whilst blue and white through and through David Dunn secured his much deserved starting position once again.

The Tangerines made the short journey from their seaside town to Blackburn bringing with them an impressive following – there was even a very entertaining chicken in their number.

The Seasiders took the lead in the 65th minute as Mackenzie headed home from a corner, sparking a roar from the away stand followed by a pyro party.

The goal sank in the hearts of Rovers fans as their team had conceded after being the better side in the majority of the game. To rub insult into injury the corner should not have been given as the ball appeared to have been handled in the area.

The anguish was short lived as super striker Jordan Rhodes equalised after a spell of Rovers pressure, in the 80th minute. The goal had been coming and a wave of relief swept over the home side.
He scores when he wants, and when Rovers desperately need an equaliser

Rovers were unable to score again despite having chances and the game ended 1-1.

Before kick-off, fans were hoping for a desperately needed three points to prevent them from plunging further into a relegation battle, but after conceding in the second half, they will reluctantly settle for a point.

Bowyer seems to be attempting to instil the spirit back into the squad as he did previously, and play was slightly better than the last five or six games. Motivation has not been a problem in recent games but there has been a distinct lack of quality which Bowyer must try and fix.

Successfully today, he did manage to change the one dimensional tactics that have seen Rovers lose form and thankfully managed to kick out the high ball tactics seeing a much better style of football being played.

It will take time with Bowyer as once again he has been thrown in at the deep end and is left with a huge task on his shoulders to ensure that Rovers remain in the second flight rather than spiral to league one in a back to back relegation twist.

An interesting statistic shows that when Rovers have scored first in a game this season, they have not lost the match. When Rovers have conceded first in a game (since September) they have not won the match.

It seems that confidence is a huge factor in results for Rovers, as when they score they are often able to continue scoring but struggle to find a way back into the game following a concession.

Ideally, Rovers wanted three points today as the squad is in dire need of points and will struggle to find them against Cardiff on Monday. One point sees them secure a five point gap over the drop but it is imperative for them to win the next home game against the Derby rams.
